March 30, 2007, Maemo 3.1 'bora' maintenance release available
Maemo 3.1 is a maintenance release for maemo 3.0 'bora'. It is in sync with the latest Nokia Internet Tablet N800 running the OS 2007 Edition version 3.2007.10-7.

March 23, 2007, Better video and Flash performance in the latest OS 2007 update
Nokia has released an update to the Internet Tablet OS 2007 edition.
The new image is available for Nokia N800 users, check the installation instructions
for MS Windows or
Linux.
This new release has improvements and fixes in four main areas:
- Video and Flash performance and quality
- Bluetooth connection
- Browser stability
- Activating touch screen and keys lock
Also various stability fixes have been made. Thanks for the reports and feedback sent through the maemo Bugzilla and mailing lists!
The corresponding maemo SDK will be released very soon. Maemo developers stay tuned.
February 2, 2007, Maemo 2.2 'gregale' is released
Maemo 2.2 supports application development for Nokia 770 Internet Tablet running the latest OS 2006 Software Edition. In this release we also updated to the latest Scratchbox Apophis R4 cross-compilation environment.

February 2, 2007, New Application Catalog
We proudly announce that the new Application Catalog is officially available at http://downloads.maemo.org. We kindly ask the developers to start using the new catalog for registering applications, instead of the wiki pages.
This is a major step in the maemo.org facelift project. There are probably problems and questions related to this new service. We would appreciate if all these are reported in our issue tracker.
We hope the community will like and enjoy the new catalog!
January 7, 2007, Nokia launches Developer Device Program
Nokia is launching a Developer Device Program to provide open source developers with Nokia N800 Internet Tablets at a discount. Maemo.org will be providing 500 devices at a price of 99 euros per device to selected open source developers. Eligible developers will be provided a discount code to be used at the Nokia N800 online shop.

November 30, 2006, Taste Herring!
Herring is a stable counterpart of maemo Sardine, the bleeding edge distribution of maemo's Hildon Application Framework.
Herring software will be included in the next major number release of maemo called bora.
Use Herring to get sneak peek to new maemo release and port your applications for it.
Like Sardine, Herring is meant for application developers, hackers and tinkerers, not for end-users.

November 14, 2006, Maemo 2.1 'scirocco' is out
Following the Internet Tablet OS 2006 update we are proudly announce our latest SDK: Maemo 2.1 'scirocco'.
Among the updates there are several bugfixes and other enhancements. The address book APIs are now also available as well as minimal rootstraps for application development.

July 13, 2006, Maemo Sardine is on the grill
Maemo Sardine is a fresh and tasty bleeding edge distribution of Maemo's Hildon Application Framework for the Nokia 770 Internet Tablet. The Sardine contains the latest versions of HAF components tagged in the stage.maemo.org subversion repository.
Maemo Sardine is meant for application developers, hackers and tinkerers, not for end-users. By nature it is unstable and will often be badly broken.

July 7, 2006, Maemo 2.0 Final and Internet Tablet OS 2006 edition released
The final version of the Maemo 2.0 (mistral) is now available. You can install the development environment according to the Maemo Tutorial.

June 9, 2006, Maemo 2.0 beta and Internet Tablet OS 2006 edition Beta released
Maemo 2.0 beta together with Internet Tablet OS 2006 edition BETA is released and available for download. The beta release is for maemo developers. Developers are encouraged to test and provide feedback
Maemo 2.0 introduces a major binary break due to the adoption of EABI toolchain and several API changes requiring porting of all existing maemo 1.1 applications to maemo 2.0. This early release provides an opportunity for maemo developers to port and test their 1.1 applications to 2.0 before the final Internet Tablet OS 2006 edition release due 2nd quarter 2006.
Maemo 2.0 beta release includes development environment for x86, armel together with new documentation and porting instructions. Some of the new features listed as part of Maemo 2.0 roadmap are not yet supported in the beta release like the Real Time Communication framework Telepathy / Farsight. Maemo 2.0 compatible scratchbox 0.9.8.7 and toolchains are available from scratchbox.org.

June 2, 2006, Hacking contest for GUADEC 2006
For the occasion of GUADEC 2006 in Vilanova i la Geltru, Nokia Multimedia will award the best Maemo hacks by participants to the event. GUADEC happens between the 23rd and the 30th of June, you can still register here.
However, entries to the contest do not have to be developed there, it is enough that a member of the team is present at GUADEC to represent the entry and take the prize. The prizes are Nokia hardware, including Nokia 770 Internet Tablets. We'll announce the winners and hand out their prizes during GUADEC itself.
The deadline for submissions is the 25th of June at midnight, Vilanova time. There's still time to work on that hack or even get started on a new one.

Nokia released a software update for Nokia 770. The new image can be downloaded from here: http://maemo.org/downloads/nokia_770.

September 15, 2005, Developer Device Program closed
As we are getting closer to the release date of the Nokia 770 Internet tablet, the Developer Device Program will also be closed. The interest generated by the program was enormous and we here at the maemo team are very delighted and thankful of all the project ideas we received. We are still going through the last applications and we will soon start sending out the discount codes to the chosen participants.

The maemo platform subversion repository is now open for use. The subversion repository makes it easier to track development and bug fixes.
