Internet Tablet OS 2006 edition Beta release SW Feature Notes

The Internet Tablet OS 2006 edition introduces rich Internet communications, featuring built-in Internet calling and Instant messaging clients compatible with GoogleTalk or other Jabber based systems. The OS 2006 edition can also support SIP based VoIP solutions, like the popular Gizmo Project by SIPPhone Inc, planned to be available for the Nokia 770 Internet Tablet.

The new software edition includes other novelty features such as enhanced text typing with full-screen finger keyboard, option for extended virtual memory as well as a refreshed look. Home view desktop is improved to allow users to choose from a variety of small applets to enable fast access to Internet services.

In addition to the completely new features, several improvements have been made to the existing applications. These improvements include for example:

Web browser

• username & password auto-fill for web forms and servers
• address bar URL auto-completion

RSS feed reader

• new functional Home applet with feeds preview
• embedded images support

Contacts

• new system wide Contacts application

Application Manager

• new Application Manager with support for application catalogues

Hildon Desktop

• user configurable Task Navigator and Home view
• new Home applets for Internet search and quick Internet calling
• widget improvements, e.g. movable columns used in various applications, like RSS feed reader & E-mail
